How I almost spent 900 dollars.

"Hey babe. Good news! You have 9 days left in the month, and you haven't even gone over."

"Really?? Awesome! I rock."

"....And I only increased your allowance by $15 this time."

Yup, you read that right- he increases my allowance every month so that I won't go over.

BUT I am trying. Really trying. I spent my last dollar a week ago, and I haven't made a single purchase since then.

It's all about the baby steps.

I still get cravings. I will be driving by a store (which basically means driving anywhere, since I live in a shopping district), and I will find myself turning into a parking lot.

It takes all my willpower not to open the door.

It would be so easy to walk into the stores....

To browse through the items....

To "accidentally" buy a few things that are on sale, and such a good deal, plus they will probably be gone before I can get back here with money....

....But I don't.

Because I found a new way to get my fix.

I shop online. I go from site to site and fill up shopping carts with awesome deals and expensive clothes.

And then? I close the window, and walk away.

It's therapeutic.

Here are some of the items that I didn't buy today:

Subtotal: $870.92
Taxes: A really big number
Shipping: I don't even want to think about it

Grand Total: $0.00

And yet, it is was very, very satisfying.

Where do you do your online browsing? I could use some new shopping baskets.

Every...single...dress, is beautiful. Stunning. You're right, it's therapeutic just to look at them...

And plan to practice sewing skills so I can MAKE those prettiest and not spent hundreds on them!

This post came at a good time, I'm planning a strict budget (using a fun envelope-savings system). Here's to willpower! I need it, too!

Ha ha, I do that sometimes too. Those really are beautiful dresses. I think Van has the right idea. You should learn to sew and make your own. :-)

I love the red dress! And great idea you have there with online shopping and walking away. Not sure I have your will power though...and wow, $900...that's more than I paid on my wedding dress!

I might have to try this! I just don't know if I could close the page and not buy anything! :)

beautiful dresses. Way to go on the self control. I too, am changing up our budget. I was at the bank today for almost an hour, setting up savings account for our kids, and setting up withdrawls from our checking into their accounts and other accounts automatically. That way, I'll never forget to do it myself.

I never buy anything for myself, and I do the same thing you do. Maybe I should tell my husband to give me an allowance, so I make myself buy stuff for me and not my kiddos :)

you crack me up! One of my students and I were having this very same convo the other day. She asked if she's crazy for filling up her cart with lots of stuff when wants and then closing the window and not buying it. I told her it's just window shopping online. Not a problem. LOL :)

You are funny.Did anyone tell you that? No?Okay so then take my word for it.:-).
I do the same thing, by the way.I go one step ahead while clothes "non shopping".I dream about a day when I will "recreate" the clothes myself and show them all how thrifty and talented I am.Considering that I get the shivers at the very thought of stitching, that is NOT going to happen in the very near future.;-).But a girl can dream, can;t she.
