My Favorite Word

My very favorite word is Windowsill. It just sounds so pretty when you say it. Go ahead, try it out loud. "Windowsill." See?

Do you have a favorite word?

Another word that I think is really, really pretty is Diarrhea. I'm serious! I don't like Diarrhea the noun, obviously. But if it didn't mean, well, diarrhea it would be a really beautiful word. And I'd probably name my kid that (Only, with one "r"). But I won't. Because it is a noun. And I'm pretty sure that child would hate my for life. That is, if she survived middle school.

And really, who could blame her?

You weirdo! :p

I'm going to have to spend some time thinking about this. I don't think I've ever pondered what my favorite word is...I'll let you know when I figure it out.

I kid you not, my 8th grade English teacher told us a story about a couple who emigrated from China and when they had a baby tried to find the prettiest English word to name their new baby girl. And they finally settled on, you guessed it, Diarrhea. So you're not alone after all. ;)

Oh, and every time I hear the word Plantagenet (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/plantagenet; listen to it if you're not familiar with how it's pronounced) it gets stuck in my head for the whole day. So thanks for that. But anyway I heard it for the first time in 11th grade history and it's been one of my faves since.
Fun question. I'm subscribing to the other comments to see what other people have to say. :)

When I was in middle school I said I would name my daughter ammonia. Yep, ammonia. Haven't done it yet though!

I have always liked the words Plethora and Juxtaposition...maybe someday if I get twin cats I could name them that. I love words so I have lots of favorites, I am also fickle so my fav's change daily.
Actually I guess you could say I have a plethora of favorite words and tend to use them in juxtaposition to one another...

Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting, you cracked me up!

This reminds me of Ramona Quimby when she named her doll Chevrolet.

Chevrolet is kind of pretty...

My favorite word is TOMFOOLERY.

I was on the golf course last summer and there were 3 stupid young men in the group in front of us and they were acting like A$$holes. You know the type. Wearing jeans and sneakers instead of proper golf attire. So I just blurted out, "Enough with this TOMFOOLERY." My friends cracked up and asked where I got that word. I didn't know. It was just there. On the tip of my tongue.

you must have been in the study years ago where they asked grade school kids to pick the prettiest name from a list of words. Yup Diarrhea won as prettiest girls name.
I like the scientific names of plants, and many other words. Primula denticulata, Fritillaria imperialis, 2 of my fave flowers.

Ha! You're awesome. I remember you telling me that when I was ten... I'm not sure what my favorite word is. However, a fun one to say is manure. Try it.

As to my favorite, I'll have to think on that more.

HAHAHA! You're too fun!! My fav word is CLEVER! Always has been. On the flip side, I'm not a fan of the word cupboard (maybe due to my southern roots?)! Have a wonderful day and thanks for the food for thought!

I actually do have a favorite word, it's keen. You know, like peachy keen. I love it so much that we named our third boy it, just with a different spelling: Keyne :)
